Wes was born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania – an agricultural community one hour northwest of Philadelphia. He attended Lancaster Catholic High School and graduated in 1997. He received his Bachelors of Science degree from Dickinson College with majors in Economics and Computer Science in 2001. In 2006, Wes graduated from Vanderbilt University’s full time MBA program.
After graduating from Vanderbilt, Wes became co-manager of a hedge fund in Lexington, Kentucky, managing investments for high net worth individuals and other organizations. In 2014, Wes co-Founded Castle & Key Distillery, which was built at the historic 113-acre site of the Old Taylor Distillery in Millville, Kentucky. Wes played a critical role in the construction and restoration efforts of the site, as well as the recruitment of key talent and determining the strategic direction of the company.
From a young age, Wes was involved with the foundation. He had the opportunity to sit alongside his father and grandfather as they met with potential organizations to support. Through those experiences, he learned the importance and impact of strong leadership. Time and time again, it was the nonprofits with strong leaders that not only achieved their core goals, but were able to justify ongoing investment. When Wes assumed the role of lead Trustee in 2016, he held true to these early learned principles while focusing the foundation towards its core mission of creating systemic change and eliminating poverty.
